Blogging tips from Grey Main School

Tip #1: Start with a greeting

Remember to address the blogger by name.

Tip #2: Compliment in a Specific Way

A compliment is a great way to begin a comment.
Remember to comment about something specific. Rather than writing ‘I really liked your post,’ you could write ‘I really liked your vivid description of the theme park, it made me feel like I was there.’

Tip #3: Add New Facts

If you know something about the topic, you can add more factual information in your comment.

Tip #4: Make a Connection

What does the post remind you of? Try to make a connection to yourself, to the world or to another text. For example, you could write ‘your post reminded me of when I went to Waterbom two years ago.’

Tip #5: End with a Question

Try to start a conversation. Ask the blogger a relevant question and hopefully they will reply.

Tip # 6: Proofread Your Comment

When you blog, many people may be reading your posts and comments, so it is very important to proofread.

Play Presentations/ Research Projects

Children were asked to:

1. Research an ancient game

2. Say what they have learnt about how animals play and how does this connect to how humans play?

3. Research toys from the past

4. Find a game. Read the instructions. Teach the game to someone else.

Here are some more of our presentations:

An ancient game

Gladiators had fights between criminals or animals or other gladiators. Fights took place in arenas like the Colosseum in Rome, which could hold 50,000 people. That’s 15,000 more than the Wellington stadium!

Gladiators had battles with many different animals, often as warm up games before main battles.

Animals included:

  • lions
  • tigers
  • bears
  • snakes
  • panthers
  • giraffes
  • crocodiles
  • elephants

Animals and humans

Animals and humans both use play to learn how to work together and to make friends. They both learn new things by playing.

Toys from the past and today

Toys from the past

some toys from the past :
  •  kites
  •  puppets

Kites are thought to be invented in China over 2,000 years ago. The maori people also made kites like this bird kite.

Some puppet shows in Indonesia would go all day and all night.

As part of our inquiry, we made up our own games...

Our New Inquiry- Where does the Imagination Lead us?

Here are some questions that we have about this object...

Is this real?
How old is it?
What does it do?
How is it used?
Is it magic?
Where does it come from?
What is the purpose of the lamp?
