Fractions

This term we are learning about fractions. Fractions need to have equal parts. We have been learning about numerators and denominators. The bottom number is the denominator and that tells you how many equal parts. The numerator is the top number and it tells us which part of the fraction is shaded.

Homework Week 3

PERSUASION IS ALL AROUND YOU

You might be surprised at how many people and businesses are trying to convince you to do things every day. You only have to watch commercials, read the paper, look at the ads in your magazines, or read the billboards as you’re driving home to see that persuasion is all around you. Tonight for your homework find a persuasive piece to bring to or share about in class. It can be an article in the newspaper, a letter to the editor, a movie or book review, a commercial, or an advertisement in a magazine or newspaper. Once you have found your persuasive piece, answer the questions below.

1. Where did you find your persuasive example?
2. Who is trying to persuade you?
3. What are they trying to persuade you to do?

The Phoenix Bird

In Matariki we read a book called ‘ The Girl Who Drew a Phoenix‘ by Demi. It inspired us to paint our own Phoenix pictures. The book has beautiful illustrations and there is a good message in the story.

On the second one we were given out words, my group got journey. Then we did a third dance the of wind the first one was the story, second one was the words one, the last one was of wind.

The Girl Who Drew A Phoenix

In Matariki we have been reading the story, “The girl who drew a Phoenix”.

We made some paintings of the phoenix.

We had to choose our colours and plan what our phoenix was going to look like...

Persuasive Writing

In Mahutonga and Matariki we have been learning to write…
Persuasive writing.
We interviewed Faith and Georgia. Here’s what they think about persuasive writing:
This is what Faith has to say
I like persuasive writing because it is fun and you get to write an argument with no opposition. I think I could improve my work by using better words.
And this is what Georgia said:
I like persuasive writing because I like how it’s trying to persuade people. I think I could improve my work by being able to argue from another point of view.

I'm Back!

I have just been to the UK for a term. I went to school there. We had a big assembly at the beginning of the day and we sang songs and some children would do mini plays for us. I most enjoyed art because we did sewing. I also enjoyed PE, we did tennis. The worst thing was that we were not allowed to climb trees and we could only go to the proper playground once a week.
