Camp Kaitoke Documentary 2023

We all had an absolute blast at camp. Thank you to all of the instructors, parent helpers and teachers who made this possible. Here is the Camp Kaitoke Documentary: 

Camp Kaitoke 2021

Camp Kaitoke 2021 - He tino pai mātou! As our school karakia says - i roto i te hari, me te koa, me te aroha. Anō o tētahi ki tētahi, kia puāwai tātou katoa! (In joy, and in love, it is together that we all flourish).

Camp Reflections- Rock, Leaf and Stick

The thing that Rocked for me...

The thing I will Leaf behind...

What will Stick with me...

Eddie: 

The thing that rocked for me was the crate stacking because it it something that you don't hear everyday, ´today were going to do crate stacking.” What even is that!! It was a lot of fun. 

The thing that will stick with me was the peppers, (literally, I still feel the spice), and the campfire, that was the second best part of my life. 

The thing that I will leave behind is my fear of heights because I did abseiling and crate stacking because they were both high up.

Anneke:

Stick - I want my new friends to stick with me 

Rock - the campfire rocked because we sang lots of funny songs 

Leaf - I want to leaf behind the noise that cabin 5 made all night

Konrad

Rock: I rocked at the kayaking. I jumped out and got back on by myself and we got to see Hazel (our instructor) to do a loop around and sink. 

Stick: the mud slide will stay with me because it is my last time at camp so I will remember it because it is fun we also had to cross a bridge to get there
Leaf: I will leave the chips there because the chips where as hard as a brick.

Suki-lee

Rock: I rocked at kayaking because. We got to jump out but my shoes/gumboots went sinking a little bit but at the end I got them but I had know idea I had my gumboots on when I jumped in Something that Stick: Sticked to me was the mud in the bridge of doom like my shoe almost came off in the mud but when I got out there was so much water in my shoe/gumboots.
Leaf: I will leave behind my hat because I didn't bring one anyway. So then I used John's hat but then I kept leaving John's hat in my cabin.

Yoichi

Rock: What Rocked? Ok, I'm going be honest, everything rocked… but if I have to choose one thing,  I loved singing around the campfire.
Stick: What will stick with me forever? Everything, then again Nik Mastrovich will go ‘You need to choose one thing!’ so I would say that the thing that would stick with me is… Abseiling
Leaf: What will I leave behind? My fear.

Camp Kaitoke 2020

At camp, our students:

● participated in both individual as well as team activities 

● developed teamwork and collaboration skills. They discovered that more can be achieved when people work together 

● demonstrated self-care skills while staying away from home. They cared for themselves and others too!

 

● developed skills in ensuring the well-being and safety of each other

● showed initiative, commitment and perseverance 

● developed leadership skills 

● worked through challenges with a Growth Mindset

● tested ideas and solutions and made decisions 

● had fun!

Camp Kaitoke

Camp was a huge success. Our students had an awesome time and challenged themselves in lots of different ways. Camp provided opportunities for students to grow personally, increase their self-confidence, develop a sense of adventure, and enhance their responsibility for their own and others' safety.

Nikora: The most challenging thing about camp was waking up in the morning and getting out of bed without making a noise. The reason it was so hard was that the bed would creek every time I moved a muscle and my sleeping bag was like a plastic bag in a storm. 

It was 5.30 am I needed to go toilet I reached out for the ladder and fell down it. Then at 10 pm I lost my fun I went to sleep the day is done.

Archie: Camp was really fun because we had to make a hut for all of our friends. We had to use what we found in the bush and we found a rope tied to a big tree what was cut down. We only stayed for one day but the year five and six stayed for two nights and three days. Camp, l love camp. It is just the best.

Nell: “Ok...” began Heather. “Emelia and Nell.” My heart jumped into my mouth. I had to do it so we made our way up to the queue that consisted of 2 people. After 3 minutes of a battle between fear and excitement it was my turn. As I made my way up to the swing passing Emelia who whispered how fun it was. I climbed up the metal ladder and Heather clicked me into the swing with a carabiner and attached me to the rope which would be pulling me higher. As soon as she took the ladder away I knew I couldn’t do it. “I don’t want to do it.” I announced. “What if I just swing you by the legs?” She asked. After giving it some thought I agreed and at first she started small and then ended up giving my rather big pushes. “I want to do it.” I said and so they started pulling me. Higher higher and higher. “Stop” I squeaked a bit over half way. I glanced at the ground about 5 metres bellow me. I tugged at the pin that connected me with the pulling rope and it moved about 2 inches and my trembling hands pulled at the pin again and I swung backwards leaving my stomach behind. After about 1 minute I slowed to a stop and I smiled as I swapped with the person who was behind me in the queue. I had done it.

Ella: The most scariest thing at camp was tree tops it was a bit challenging for me but I did it any way. It was scary at first and when I kept on going I lost some of my fear, which was kind of good!

When the bus was driving us to camp, I was really looking forward to cabins, kayaking, dinner, lunch, morning tea, and sleeping! I really enjoyed all of the things that I did. I had to use lots of bravery in some things. And some other things were easy. The high swing was scary! We were sleeping in bunk beds💤💤!!! CAMP WAS AWSOME!!!

If I learned Here...

We are involved in a project called "If I learned here" We will be collaborating with other schools to find out about other places and where they live.

We are very excited about this project as it links with our inquiry, "What is in your backyard?"

Camp Kaitoke 2015

We all had an amazing time at Camp Kaitoke. We were all able to step outside of our comfort zone and try new things. We worked with lots of different people to problem solve.

We have been writing goals for camp. We have been talking about what we are looking to and what we are nervous about...

Yay! We are off to camp. Its that time of the year when the Year Fives and Sixes head off to camp Kaitoke again. Yep, that time when the cabins get messy and the kids go crazy. And, of course the Year Fours join in with the fun; every Year Four is so excited about their very first visit, but some people are still nervous. I asked people what they are looking forward to…

Some Writing About Camp

Predators and Prey

I was running from the T Rexes and bears. Predator and Prey was hard, especially if you were a chicken. The first round was hard but the last round was easy. I didn’t tag many people because everyone I went for was too fast. Some people were too slow and too easy. I wasn’t going to tag Connor, even though he was a bear, because we teamed up on someone. Everything at camp was fun. Abseiling was good too but that is a different story.

I whooshed down the mud slide like a speed 

boat. Once I landed in the water, it was slimy, 

muddy and dirty. It felt like I was surrounded 

by slime monsters.

Suddenly, I started to hear the sound of water coming towards me and splash! I get soaked with water … oh no, it’s Chanel’s turn. Oh no, Chanel got soaked too… so we go to the back of the line and we sat down and we chatted until it was our go again.
