Passions, Talents and Lifelong Learning Skills

This week's @kidsedchatnz topic was about passions, talents and lifelong learning skills. Part of the chat is flipped so we watched the Kid President's YouTube clip on how to be an inventor.

Here are the questions that we answered during the chat:
  1. What are your interests, talents or passions?
  2. Do you get to learn about your interests in the classroom? Give us an example.
  3. What do you have to do to become really good at something?
  4. Do you think it's important for children to have some time each week to learn about something that they're interested in? Why?
  5. The top 10 jobs in 2015 didn't exist in 2004. What jobs do you think there will be in 10 years time?
  6. What skills do you think we will need for these jobs in the future?
  7. The Kid President wanted to invent a Catuum Cleaner. What would you like to invent to make the world more awesome? *Opportunity to share a photo via a tweet here.
  8. Is creativity important? How can we encourage creativity in the classroom?
  9. Sometimes we get stuck with our learning and have to problem solve. What does good problem solving look like?

‘Are schools up to date with technology?’
‘If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be?’
‘Everyone's an expert at something, what would you teach your classmates?’

@kidsedchatnz debate about flags

Today we took part in an education twitter chat. We are learning about debating and how people have different opinions. We also shared some of our own flag designs that we made during the art exhibition. To see the questions that were asked go to the @kidsedchatnz website:

Twitter Photo Chat @Kidsedchatnz

Today we were using our school Twitter account (@MatarikiWBS) & we were answering some questions (see below). One of the questions was about a Cow with a suitcase & you had to answer why does the cow have the suitcase & where is it going?

Nicola's base group did this today as part of our rotations in Matariki & Mahutonga! It has been really fun doing this, this afternoon.

Newlands Mystery Skype

Some of us Mystery Skyped a class from Newlands Primary School. We recorded our progress on Twitter
@MatarikiWBS
#mysteryskype
It was fun having to research and find places on a map.  We took turns and asked questions to each other to narrow it down until we got the correct school.
