Wendy from Waste Management, part of Wellington City Council, came in to talk to us about different types of waste and what our city does with them all. It was very interesting and we all learned a lot. Have a look at our padlet to see what we and Tautoru learned from Wendy. We were also able to share with her what some of us had learned from our maths investigation into water - did you know that it takes 11.3 litres of water to make on piece of paper?

Beach Clean Up
Beach Clean Up
On Tuesday 3rd of December the people who were running for student council and the student councillors went down to worser bay beach to clean it up.
Rochelle came and talked to Matariki and Mahutonga about the rubbish being littered to the ground and the rain poured down and washed the rubbish to the drain then the drain carried it to the sea and sea creatures were eating the rubbish and thinking it was food.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
We collected our rubbish on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Megan, who works at the dump, came in and showed us how much rubbish we were producing. It was interesting to see that there was so much untouched food. The fruit could have filled a fruit bowl. She talked about how we could reduce our rubbish in the school. If you don’t want to eat a whole apple then ask your parents to cut it in half. Rinse out plastic bags and reuse them. Use
containers instead of lots of plastic bags. If you have a yoghurt container don’t put it in the rubbish – maybe plant a flower in it!
