Miramar Rangers - Football Tournament

On Wednesday our eager Year 3 and 4 tamariki had the opportunity to head to Miramar Park and compete against other schools in the Miramar Rangers Football tournament.

Students improved their football skills, practised working in a team and demonstrating good sportsmanship. They had the talented Miramar Rangers Football coaches there to support.

Beach Day Friday

Today we had a great time on the beach. We did some swimming, built sandcastles, played sports and built a waka from driftwood. Lots of fun, enhancing our Positive Emotions!

Cross Country - May 8th 2019

Cross Country 2019

Our annual Cross Country event is to be held on Wednesday 8th May at Worser Bay Beach. All students will participate in the event, from the newest new entrant to the wizened old Year 6s. The starter’s pistol will fire its first shot soon after 9:30 am. The runners with the shortest legs will be underway!

The course for the younger students is not too demanding: one lap along the beach, up the track to the changing sheds and back along the grass to the finish. The rest do progressively longer circuits.

The emphasis for this part of the day is on participation. It is also for our kids to set a goal for themselves and to run as much and as well as they can. In the name of collaboration, we have been thinking about what we can do to support others. Some students have chosen to run alongside a buddy so that they can cheer each other on. Nice idea!

If the weather is extreme (probably not too hot), we will postpone the event. A call will be made early in the morning, date to be confirmed.

We have started building our stamina and strengthening our muscles for the race and will continue our training from the start of Term 2.

We hope to see you there with your cheering gear on.

Futsal Tournament

On Tuesday we competed in the Eastern Zone Futsal Tournament.  What an amazing day!

This is a photo of the whole group, three teams.

Our competitive team qualified top of their pool and made it into the final against Miramar North.  It was an incredibly exciting game with chances being made at both ends.  The skill level of both teams was quite breath taking!  Miramar North scored the first goal, a great cross took a pretty lucky deflection of the knees of one of their players and found the back of the net.  We fought back hard. Theo had a few shots denied by great keeping. Towards the end of the game Miramar North scored again.  It became apparent then that it was probably too high a mountain to climb.

Our kids were disappointed, to have come so far and then drop the final game was hard but they coped well with it, shook the other teams hand and gave them a good cheer.  Great sports!

Highlights of the day include:

  • All kids playing with great gusto and enthusiasm
  • Encouraging each other and the other team
  • Congratulating the other team after wins or losses
  • Winning and losing with good grace
  • All team having some wins, draws and losses

Spectating was  'really HARD work' too!

Sport at Miramar Park

On Friday we went to Miramar Park. We started with a game of Capture the Flag and the whole Matariki Mahutonga whanau was involved. We then played sports and took part in physical activity.

Learning doesn't just happen at school. There are many benefits to active outdoor learning.
