Brindas School

Bonjour, how have you been doing sorry we have took so long to reply 😅

We are connected

We have been connected to nature when we were gardening and pulling out weeds in the garden and helping the plants. When the year 10s and Gabrielle came to help us. We were connected by being with the year 10s from Scots college.

Positive Purpose

We have positive purpose days on Thursday and Friday and an example of that is moving bark chips and sand for the juniors.

Letters

We have written some letters to you, Te Aro school and Zurich school.

The letters will be coming to your school in maybe term 3 or 4. We hope you reply.

Brindas School, We have been friends for so long now and we are happy to reply for the first time in 2023 and ‘merci’ so much for the video and see you later bye 😃😃😃

We have also been connected to our teacher and friend, Jenny who lives in London now. 

Otto: It was good to see Jenny today. We haven't seen her in so long. I wonder how it has been in London. We know that she has visited Porugal, The Netherlands and is going to Italy soon. I wonder how it has been in Britain. Is it similar to New Zealand? 

Chloe: Kids at Jenny's school get told off if they take off their shoes. They need to wear uniforms. It was really nice to see her. 

Fabian: It was good seeing Jenny. We sang to her. I wonder when she will come back to New Zealand to visit. 

Rowan: Jenny, I want to let you know that yes, we are annoying John for you!

Gigi: I wonder what different food Jenny has had in the different countries that she has been to.

Zen: It was nice to speak to Jenny. We would love to hear her talk in a british accent and say something like "A bottle of water!" I hope we get to Zoom call again.

Jasper: It was nice meeting Jenny. I wonder what food she likes in England. 

Amelia: It was really cool to see Jenny. We haven't seen her for 6 months. It was very exciting. I didn't want to leave the call as she has been one of my favourite teachers. I wonder what the kids are like at her school. I wonder if they behave themselves. 

Soma: Jenny said that the coffee is not so good. New Zealand coffee is much better. She is drinking tea instead. 

Amber: I really liked talking to Jenny, but I really miss her. I wonder if we can facetime again... I wonder what life is like in London.

Bonjour friends!

How are you doing? We have just arrived back from Camp Kaitoke. We had a fun bus ride and got to watch a movie!

We did lots of fun activities such as a big zipline called the Super Fox, kayaking, abseiling, and crate stacking! We got to sleep in cabins and have meals in a big dining hall together.

We are having a Whanau Festival on the 28th of March. Our Whanau Festival will have fun and games, also food, dancing and music, we have been making Kowhaiwhai patterns (Maori patterns) to go with it and designed some posters to advertise.

We are very excited!

How have you been at school? Have you done much cool writing, reading or maths?

It’s really cool that you are learning English, we want to thank you for that. It’s fun being able to talk to your school all the way from New Zealand! Maybe we should start learning some French!

Did you guys have a good Christmas holiday?

We have been spending some time at the beach and once got to host another school!

We had a sandcastle competition and we also got to swim in the water!

We also have started a maths investigation.

What we did was pair up with a buddy and research a cultural pattern, then, we copied one and made our own one, after that, we put them on display.

While the year fives and sixes were at camp, the year fours made some awesome artwork of their Turangawaewae, inspired by the artist Heather Brown.

Dear Friends,
We’re going tell you some stuff that we do at Worser Bay School these days.
First things first, we have 3 classes called Māhutaunga Matariki, Tautoru and Autahi. Autahi is for 5 year olds, Tautoru is for 6 and 7 year olds and Māhutaunga Matariki is for 8, 9 and 10 year olds. Fun Fact: All our classes are named after some Māori stars. Our school is on a hill, it's a small hill and small school but it is a good school. We learn Māori for one of our languages. We also say Māori phrases as well. We have sausages for lunch on Tuesdays if we pay $2. Sometimes we have pizzas on Wednesday, if you pay $5.

How are you?
Here's an update, because it was a long time since we contacted you last
Lately we have been to the local Museum (Te Papa.)
We also had an Art Celebration where we displayed some art that we made. We did swimming sports and are looking forward to a beach week and sailing at the end of this term.
We are also looking forward to our school fair.

We attended the “Tūrangawaewae- Art and New Zealand” exhibition at Te Papa. It was very inspiring! This is an art piece which resembles pou/ carvings. We are sketching it.

Dear Friends in France,
Did you have the School holidays? well if you did I hope you have had a good time. One of the things that we are doing is one of our teachers, John, reads us a story every day.
Do you have an inquiry? Well, if you do, I would love to know. We have been learning about Space and now we are thinking about Māori navigators.
At our school we have a school fair and a Poetry night. On the poetry night we make little books and then read our poems to the adults.

Yesterday I had my road patrol training. We help students to cross the road before and after school.

Sharing Our Poetry Writing With Brindas School

We thought that we would like to reply by sharing some poetry that we have written. 

Last night I saw the beach breathing. The waves splashing up and down the beach. The sand getting ripped up by the wind. The wood moving up and down on the swell. Last night I saw the beach laughing. The sea trickled away as it was tickled by the sand. The fish giggle as they play hide and seek. The shells laugh as the sea washes over them. Last night I saw the beach dancing. The sand was dancing up and down in the wind. The birds dive and hover looking for food. The sea puts on shows with its white-tips.

I listen to the kid laughing and talking to each other. The waves crashing down onto rocks like an anvil, The sand is as soft as a pillow. I take a step into the water and instantly I feel like I have stepped onto a block of ice strait out of the freezer. I go deep down into the sparkling, clear blue water, as I dived down I saw the things that will be unforgettable when my journey comes to an end. The fish are like bursts of colour underwater but I only got a glimpse because it’s like I’m a shark trying to eat them. As I am swimming the seaweed clings onto me like I’m a monster, The fish pass by and they look horrified! Then my journey comes to an end, my head pops up out of the water and at that very moment I can taste the salt water and smell the fresh air.

Being Connected is one of our learner attributes. 

Skype with our friend, Serge from France

Today we skyped with Serge Galligani who teaches at Brindas, France. It is near Lyon. We have been collaborating with the school this year. Their blog is Today we skyped with Serge Galligani who teaches at Brindas, France. It is near Lyon.

He is visiting New Zealand at the moment and said that the country is very beautiful. Serge is currently visiting our friends at Auroa School in Taranaki, New Zealand.

Jude, Eloi and Zoe were able to speak to him in french. We spoke a mixture of french and english.

In France you can eat snails, but Serge does not like them very much.

Serge's school is a very big one and they have boys and girls, just like at Worser Bay school and Brindas does not have uniforms either.

In Brindas, Serge’s class has few devices. Serge uses his camera to make movies. The class share one computer.

It was great talking to Serge today and learning about where he is from. We look forward to collaborating more in the future.
