Hospi’s Pyjamas for Winter Appeal
Hospi’s Pyjamas for Winter Appeal
Please donate a pair of NEW flannelette pyjamas
Wellington Hospitals Foundation is calling for brand new pyjamas for sick children both in Wellington Regional Children’s Hospital, and out in our community.
Wellington Regional Children’s Hospital sees a significant increase in the number of children who are admitted to hospital over the winter months, and many of them come without a pair of pyjamas. For many Wellington families in need, the simple act of having warm pyjamas and heating their home is more than they can afford. A warm pair of pyjamas, to keep our children warm at night, can help prevent them from being admitted to hospital this winter.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Purchase a pair of flannelette pyjamas (Postie Plus, Farmers, KMart and The Warehouse have a great range and at great prices)
Drop them into school by FRIDAY 29 JUNE
All donated pyjamas MUST BE BRAND NEW. Size 2-10, flannelette 2 piece pyjama button shirt sets preferred. Unisex, Boys and Girls pyjamas needed.
Drop Off Pyjamas
Pyjamas can be dropped off at Worser Bay School in MĀHUTONGA classroom into the HOSPI PYJAMAS APPEAL BOX in the mornings before 8:30am and straight after school - Jessie and friends will collect them and bring them home so we can deliver them all to the Hospital Foundation on Friday 29 June after school.
*All pyjamas must meet NZ product safety standards for fire safety. Due to the risk of infection, only new pyjamas can be accepted.
THANK YOU

No straws on our shores
"We are here to tell you all about PFP, and its new campaign, No
Straws On Our Shores and the reward cards with it. You may be
wondering what the reward cards are, here is something about
them…
The reward cards will be given out next week, you will have around
five weeks to fill them in. During those five weeks we hope
that every time you go to a cafe, bar or restaurant on the peninsula you
will say,No to a straw, you will then receive a stamp on your card or
your family’s card. You will need six stamps in total then you can take
it to the next PFP july beach clean up, where you will be in the draw to
win… vouchers for peninsula cafes and a pack of metal straws. We
hope to see you there!
Thank you for listening to our speech
For more information go to the PFP blog at...
This is a letter we sent out to cafes around the Peninsula:
No straws on our shores
PFP - Plastic Free Peninsula inc.
Dear Cafe Owner/ Manager,
PFP is a group of children and adults that for nearly 2 years has been trying to find ways to make the Miramar Peninsula plastic free. We are trying to do this by reducing the amount of single use plastic used on the Peninsula. In our time as a group we have made bags out of pillowcases and ties and helped to make boomerang bags. We also have done four beach clean ups and soon to have a fifth as we are concerned about the wildlife and sealife on our Peninsula. We’ve had many meetings as well. Our latest campaign is NO STRAWS ON OUR SHORES.
We are trying to get rid of plastic straws on the Peninsula beaches which is where you come in, if you can please do these things to help us:
We are making no straws on our shores stamp cards. Kids may come into your cafe with a no straws stamp card, like the coffee cards you might have. They may say, please can I not have a straw with my drink, and then can you please stamp or tick their card. If they do not have a card this does not have to be done, but please can you not give them a straw if they ask to not have a straw.
We are trying to make this simple for you as you don’t need to hand out the cards or collect the cards, please just stamp or tick the cards.
When the cards are filled up we will give prizes at our winter beach clean up in July, the winners will be pulled out of a hat. There will be 5 winners and the prizes include a pack of metal straws and vouchers. After that has happened you will receive a certificate from the PFP team saying thank you to how you helped us have less plastic straws on our shores.
We would like to promote your cafe in this campaign. If you would like to help us by stamping the cards please email us at
plasticfreepeninsula@gmail.com
and we will add you to the list of supporting cafes/eateries.
For more information about our PFP group you can check our blog site:
Plasticfreepeninsula.wordpress.com.
Thank you for reading this letter and helping to make the Miramar Peninsula beaches plastic free!

Healthy Body, Healthy Mind? Reflections
Greer T: My healthy body healthy mind reflection is...
Hugo W: Healthy body Healthy mind
After all the school runs I have been feeling a lot more healthy. I have also felt like I can run for longer without taking a break. I rate myself a 3 ½ because I have been getting a lot more fit but I think could of taken less breaks.
Mia: My healthy body healthy mind reflection
Alba: Healthy body, healthy mind reflection
I am proud of myself because I have done a lot of exercise. My healthy body has not affected my mind. I could of done a bit more stretching and exercise. I got into VT2 most of the times I did exercise but I tried my best. My next steps are to do more exercise and remember to stretch after exercising.
Joel: Healthy body healthy mind reflection
I feel like this inquiry has helped be more healthy and makes be want to run around more. It also helps me wake up and go to sleep easier.
What went well was my running and pushing myself harder and being more motivated. I think I am proud of making my decision in the highly competitive because I am running with more pressure on my back. How has being healthier affected my mind? It has affected my mind because I have been more organised and relaxed And I have been proud of making good decisions about my healthy body and healthy mind. My next steps are to stay organised and relaxed and train harder for the duathlon.
Oscar: Term four healthy body healthy mind reflection
I rate my self as a 3/5 because I didn’t push my self enough but I got fitter and think I can do lots of sports. My next steps are to... carry on with the fitness build up so I can do much better at the duathlon and the next cross country and other fitness. What am I proud of the fitness level that I’ve come up to which has enabled me to run and swim faster than before.
Alex G: Reflection on healthy body healthy mind
I am proud that I am waking up later so I am more onto it. Being healthier has effected my mind by making me like to run way more and not walk as much. I rate my effort a 5/5 because I tried as hard as I could and I think I am fitter than I was before. I think could have done better by running the whole way rather than walking some of the way. I think my next steps are to drink lots of water before running because then I wont get tired as fast.

For my effort I rate myself a 4 because I tried hard but sometimes I did the easy option. I am proud because every week day I had no sugar and it effects my mind because a healthy snack helps me think better. I could of improved my pace by always trying to get into my VT2 system. My next steps are to do long runs outside of school and play running games at playtime. I could and will do more stretching after a run.

Taking Action: Peace Week
Today we spent the day Taking Action. Last week, we learnt a lot about nuclear history and why New Zealand is nuclear free. Today we used what we have learnt to take action. We made plays, movies, songs, art, persuasive letters, poems...
These are some of the things that we came up with:

Our Tane Art is on display at the Kilbirnie Library. Go and have a look over the holidays!
As part as our Power Inquiry at Worser Bay School, we have been learning about Tane.
Tane is the garden/god of the forest, who went through the 12 heavens, and got the baskets of knowledge.
He is known for more than one name, like: Tane, Tane Mahuta & Guardian of the forest. We did art of Tane.

Plastic Free Peninsula Pizza and Movie night

A message from Miranda Struthers...
July is Plastic Free Month and the Worser Bay School community has launched a ‘Plastic Free Peninsula’ campaign. Students, staff and parents are raising awareness about the plastic problem in the Miramar Peninsula coastal environment and are taking action to address the problem and reduce consumption, both at school and at home.
To kick off the campaign a movie and pizza night was held
On Sunday 3rd July, International Plastic Bag Free day, the school community held a beach clean-up around the Miramar Peninsula. Over 20 large sacks of rubbish were collected and some interesting items were uncovered including a welding mask, complete fishing rod, sailor’s washing machine and parts of an old washed up suitcase. The students then took the rubbish back to school to complete a waste audit of their findings. Hugo M said "I'm surprised how much rubbish we found. I'm surprised we didn't see it at first till we looked closely, it was tangled in the bushes and wedged between the rocks".
The Plastic Free Peninsula campaign will continue beyond July and the students are wishing to share the campaign with other schools, businesses and communities on the Peninsula. More activities are being planned in the months to come.![]() |
| Raffle Prizes- thank you to Jacky for donating the water tank to the school |
