Our Learner Attribute this term is "I am Powerful." 

Students are receiving Principal Awards for being powerful... 

But, what does that look like? and how can you be a powerful learner?

Our learner attribute this term is "I am Powerful." We have been demonstrating this at home with all of the creative and wonderful things that we have been doing in our "bubbles". We are overcoming challenges, persevering, taking action and making the most of the situation.

Ajooni: When I visited Weta cave last year, there was an artist who made sculptures out of tinfoil. I decided to do the same. Here is my cactus.

Petra: We did a taste test. I got everything correct. I loved the marshmallows and candy floss but the blue cheese was yucky!

What a great way to focus on our Positive Health and practice Maths at the same time!

Inventions: Weird and Wonderful

Our Inquiry this term is called “Business Time.” We will be designing and making products to be sold at our Market Day. Students will be going through the full design process to design a product (or service) which meets a need or responds to an opportunity.The profits from Market Day will be used to host another school or class for a day during Beach Week.

Our Learner Attribute this term is “I am Powerful.” We will be focusing on:

• demonstrating hard work, grit, resilience, perseverance to achieve goals
• thinking originally and outside of the box and come up with an idea that is unique
• think fluently and generate at least 5- 10 ideas and explain them.

We have begun an Inquiry looking at how people respond to needs and opportunities to create inventions. We have been wondering about the design process; how did the inventor come up with the idea?

We made a Backwards Map, starting with the invention and working back to the beginning, the need and the ideas, the failed prototypes and finally the successful one.

Next week we will begin thinking about problems and designing things to meet that need. Watch this space for exciting developments!

Prototypes: Forest Protectors

This is an example of one of our designs

On Friday, we started our prototypes for the inventions we are making. We are designing products or inventions that can be used to help protect our Forests. We have bird feeders, cat collars, waste disposers and so many more! Bring any materials (cardboard, recycling, tape) - basically anything your design needs!

Worser Bay Cross Country 2018

Wow! What an amazing event! Our students showed great resilience and perseverance to get around the course. We loved how some of our senior students helped the younger students in Tautoru and Autahi to complete the course.

Students set themselves challenging goals leading up to the event. We have been demonstrating our learner attribute- I am Powerful!
