We had a fantastic couple of days in the great outdoors at the end of last week. We were getting out and exploring the peninsula. Ākonga presented their Magic Places to each other and in the process, learnt about some of the history and special features of the area. We did a solid amount of walking which was challenging for some; all part of our focus this year of building Grit!
On Thursday, we went around the Seatoun Peninsular, Oruaiti Reserve and over the Eastern Walkway to Tarakena Bay.

Peninsula Walk
We had a wonderful day exploring the peninsula. We explored rock pools, had a long lunch at Breaker Bay, made artworks inspired by Andy Goldsworthy and visited O-rua-iti Pā. We had to use Grit for our long walk.

Local Wind Sculpture Walk
Today we went on a huge walk (about 9 km) down to Cobham Drive and saw the wind sculptures there. It was fun and inspiring (Janne). Ollie's feet started to hurt. It was cold because of the strong and powerful wind. The wind was strong, almost blowing us off our feet (Alex G).
The zephyrometer was very, very tall. Some of us think it was 12.5 meters tall, others 20 metres and others 25-30 metres.
We're all very tired now!

Moving March
This is "Moving March" and we are thinking about getting moving. Moving March is an event to get people all over NZ walking. Every time you walk to school you can tick off a number on the card that is sent home with your child. When you have walked ten times you can post it (details on the back of the card and need to be received by 7th March) and be in to win a bike and helmet.

Message from Wellington City Council: Parent Photo Competition: For the second year in a row we are running our Parent Photo Competition. We encourage families to take a photo reflecting the positives of their active journey to school and send it to us at schooltravel@gw.govt.nz or post it on our Facebook page -https://www.facebook.com/ movinmarch/ (using #movinmarch so we can see it) they will go into the draw to win a family pass to their favourite Wellington Wild Things destination (2 to be won). Last year we got some great pictures of nature, pets and shadow creations which families had seen on their journey to school (photos do not have to be of children).

Nicola started us off and walked 4km...
Here is one of Gillian's walks:
Tawa Tawa Reserve-- 3.05 K walk with Debbi and Penny
The walk starts in a field and then goes up a track and over a ridge. On the walk I saw some palms, lots of fennel, some toi toi and lots of gorse! On one side of the ridge you can see out to the south coast and on the other side you can see Mt. Victoria and the harbour .

At the top there are sometimes horses and I have to put the dogs on the lead. There’s also a statue
Here is the view from the top:
Chrissy’s walk from Museum hotel to end of oriental parade and back again
Distance: 1.6Km one way 3.2Km return
Here is the track:
The terrain is flat and on the road. There is a beautiful man made beach and a couple of cafes that you can stop at if you want to. We saw boats, seagulls and pohutakawa trees .
