Back in the Library:

We are back in the library! Thanks to everyone involved in getting it up and running again. It is a tranquil special space. The mood was very zen as the kids engaged with our beautiful books. We are giving each other recommendations, browsing the material and learning again where the books can be found. And, where they need to be returned to.
What book would you recommend?

Miramar Library Visits

We will be walking to Miramar Library every 3 weeks.

This is us at the library on Tuesday. It was great to choose books that we want to read. We had a lovely afternoon, walking and some calm... building on our Positive Emotions and Positive Health as well as reading for enjoyment!

Library Student Council

We have been learning how the books in the library are organised. We talked about how fiction books are organised by the last name of the author and got into a line that showed the order books we write would be put in. Lots of us have last names that start with S so we explored what would happen next, Sm (Smith) was before So (Sorsa).

Then we explored the Dewey Decimal System. We chose something we wanted to explore and took a guess what it was about then went and saw if we could find a book about that.

"Today we learned about the Dewey decimal system which is a system used in libraries to organise non-fiction books. The books are organised in numbers. We were interested in which categories animals were placed in and we guessed 500 and we guessed right 599.7."

Tane Art at Kilbirnie Library

Our Tane Art is on display at the Kilbirnie Library. Go and have a look over the holidays!

As part as our Power Inquiry at Worser Bay School, we have been learning about Tane.
Tane is the garden/god of the forest, who went through the 12 heavens, and got the baskets of knowledge.
He is known for more than one name, like: Tane, Tane Mahuta & Guardian of the forest. We did art of Tane.

Making a Contribution - Student Council

This week we got into our new Student Council groups, with the new leaders. The leaders all did a quick presentation about what they thought was important about the role and what they thought they could bring to it. Then we got to work, sorting out priorities for the term and rosters as to who would do what jobs, or brainstorming what the priorities for the group should be.

The groups are:
 - Library
 - ICT
 - PALs
 - Gardens
 - Compost
 - Trapping
 - Outdoor classroom
 - Choir
 - Social

If you have any skills or tools that you would like to share with the students to help with any of these groups, please let John, Gabrielle or Hamish know.

Library Visit: Weds- Who is in our community?

Anna- I learnt that where the Miramar library is now, it used to be a lake. I enjoyed the walk and the talk from Sharon. I am interested in the library (I am doing the Library research). My next steps are to go to the library and interview at least two librarians and ask them questions about their past and their job!

Khailin: I liked learning about Miramar’s past.

Charlie P:  I liked learning about how the library used to be a lake & more!

Zoe.R: I learned a lot about what Wellington used to look like and what Wellington used to look like and what it look likes now. The librarian told us a lot about Miramar. Definitely check out the Miramar Library!

Blake: I learnt that the Miramar library used to be under a swamp. I also looked at a book with some friends and it was about what Wellington used to look like in the past and what it looks like now!

Alex P: I really like learning about Miramar Peninsula, the library & the lake
