Matariki Māhutonga City Gallery + Wellington Museum Trip

 We are so INSPIRED after our trip to the City Gallery and Wellington Museum.

City Gallery

We explored the latest exhibition called 'Every Artist'. We were curious about the messages/meaning behind the artwork and enjoyed trying to figure these out throughout the gallery.

We were particularly drawn to Emily Karaka's work which displayed her inspirations for her work. 

We also created our own books for a place to record our inspiration, which I'm sure will be filled soon! 

Wellington Museum

Learning about the history of Wellington/ NZ has been a focus recently. It is great to understand the formation of New Zealand with greater depth.

At the museum we heard more about characters like the Wakefields as well as the sharing of history through the Te Ao Māori lens. We look forward to continuing this learning in the weeks to come.

How can we Celebrate Whetūkairangi Pā as a Important Place in Wellington?

We have been thinking about how we can show that Whetūkairangi Pā is an important place in Wellington.  Many of the other Pā sites are marked in some way and we would like to do something also.  Our students have been thinking about what this might look like.

Musical Instrument Making

Last Friday, we made some musical instruments from our designs. We had lots of fun making these, using our creativity. 

Our Inquiry has a music focus and we are working towards our Arts Celebration...

Today we shared some of our musical instruments at assembly... 

One, Two, Three, Four... Arts Celebration, Here We Go!

Students have been learning about how music is made, the stories it can tell, about tone and texture and timing. They have been jamming with Andreas, getting into the rhythmic groove. They have begun composing, creating, recording: playing every known and as yet undiscovered instrument, banging on every possible surface with any available implement in preparation for our Music Festival Arts Celebration. This will take place on the evenings of Wednesday 22 August and Thursday 23 August between 6.00pm and 7.00pm at Worser Bay School. As an audience member, you will begin the evening in your child’s base space and then proceed around the school at ten minute intervals, soaking in the sounds of all other groups as you go. Be prepared to go on a musical adventure, take a Hero’s Journey, leap over an emotional arc, visit the Island of Animals. Music, perhaps more than any of the other Arts, can be transcendent; let yourself be uplifted by our musical creations. Or let yourself be transported to fantastic places of fantasy! Or join us for some levity and laughter. It will be like some sort of musical Circus!

Working with Worser Bay Boating Club

We have been lucky to be working with Dean Stanley at the Worser Bay Boating Club to help develop ideas about the club's expansive new vision which includes a classroom. Dean came in and spoke to our senior students on Wednesday, leaving them particularlry excited about the coming:
 - penguin hotels
 - anemone garden
 - paua nursery

Today we went down to the Worser Bay Boating club rooms, got curious asked questions, researched, investigated rock pools, drew some initial design ideas and played in the sand. We look forward to sharing some of our work with you and others visiting the boating club soon.
