We are learning about binary code and thinking like a computer

The new digital technologies curriculum has been implemented this year. It is about giving them an understanding of how digital technologies work. They will learn the skills to become creators of new digital technologies which can help solve modern world challenges. Our teachers and students are on a learning journey together.

There are now two new technological areas:
1) Computational Thinking
2) Designing and Developing Digital Outcomes.

Watch this space as our learners (teachers and students) play with what is possible. We want our students to be creators, not just consumers of technology. 

We challenged Suz to work out a secret code in binary! 

Social Positive Purpose Group

We are the Social Positive Purpose Group. We are showing manaakitanga by helping others. We take action by helping each other in our school, our local community and the wider community. 

In our groups, we have been generating ideas that will help others. 

We want to develop the Harry Potter club. We will include everyone that would like to join. We are brainstorming ideas. 

We would like to teach others how to wash hands properly. This will stop people getting sick from allergies and viruses.

We are running a Friday club with the junior students. We are teaching them to play a game called Pikmon. We will meet at the big kid's playground. 

Last year, we made a movie to say that "bullying is not welcome at our school". This year, we are keen to make a "put your rubbish in the bin" movie.

Thinking like an inventor

The next stage of our Inquiry is to become designers and inventors. We know that inventors need to have lots of ideas to get their best ideas. 

We thought "outside of the box" and thought of inventions for combining shoes and a vacuum cleaner. 

Our next steps are to design something to help the forest... Watch this space!
