Beach Clean Up

Beach Clean Up

On Tuesday 3rd of December the people who were running for student council and the student councillors went down to worser bay beach to clean it up.

Rochelle came and talked to Matariki and Mahutonga about the rubbish being littered to the ground and the rain poured down and washed the rubbish to the drain then the drain carried it to the sea and sea creatures were eating the rubbish and thinking it was food.

Quadblogging Update- Global Hello!

Our Quadblogging friends asked us to be included in "Global Hello" week. This afternoon some of our students came up with different ways of saying hello in different languages.

Greetings! from Nicola Stevenson on Vimeo.

Class 4EL in Lincoln/ UK have been celebrating the achievements of local people. They have been learning about Joseph Banks, who was a botanist. He sailed with Captain Cook on the Endeavour. They have created a film about the voyage they made. You can view this and COMMENT on their blog. They would love to have feedback on their work...

Monster Poem by Rowan

MONSTER

He has eyes as cold as the polar ice caps
Teeth as sharp as knives
Skin as rough as scales
a heart as cold as the frozen sea.
a smell of rotting flesh
a roar like falling boulders
legs as big as glaciers
claws as sharp as swords
WATCH OUT!

Art Exhibition Review

Last Thursday the 29th of August, I went to the Worser Bay School Art Exhibition. It was a great event! The work was amazing; ranging in size and scale; the sculptures with their bright vibrant colours were a standout for me. Also a stand out, the creativity displayed sculptures. Of particular interest to me was a piece called ‘Sensation’ by Thanh. It was a wire made wine bottle and glass with red string connecting them together to look like red wine being poured. Even though it wasn’t kinetic, it still had that sort of feel about it. The cleverness behind this idea was something new and I’m sure all ages would have enjoyed this piece. Another great piece was a piece by Wilbur called ‘Coloured Snow’. It was in the shape of a water wheel flipped on its side with coloured balls bobbing on the bottom. The thing that made this piece unique for me were the bold colours - they reminded me of a circus. Most of the art was inspired by Alexander Calder’s big shapes, and Len Lye’s kinetic work. Most of the sculptures were kinetic and all sculptureswere made out of recycled materials. Another great thing about the evening was the release of the new wine labels designed by Worser Bay School students. The creativity and effort put in made them look top quality. The music was wonderful, it gave the show a lot of atmosphere. The silent auction was great and was a good reason to stay till the end. Overall, a great experience and very highly recommended.
