The Wrap

The entire community got together to celebrate a wonderful year and have a bit of a sing song.

It is relatively informal, with families sitting and singing together.
It's also a time where we farewell our Year 6 graduates and they have an opportunity to say a few words! The Year 6 students were fantastic!

Trip to Massey University

The other week some kids from Matariki and Mahutonga went to Massey University to see what inventions they have been using to do their research. We went to different  labs. We discovered that people make their own 3D printers.

Trip to Cooking School

We have been interested in innovations in food and cooking.

At the french cooking school Cordon Bleu we saw food sculptures made out of chocolate, sugar and other stuff. At the Cordon Bleu cooking school, we learnt that the teachers have the long hats and the students have the short hats. At Cordon Bleu we learnt where all the students cook and study. You are allowed to start the cooking school when you are sixteen but they recommend when you have finished university. By Zoe, Emma and Molly

WBS has got talent

Today the student council ran a talent show. It was fun and awesome. There were musical instruments, singers, dancers and more. The judges rated the talented children and added the ratings up to see who would make it into the finals. The prize was a chocolate fish. By Louie

Year Six Graduation Dinner

We had a great time at the Year Six Leaver's Dinner. The theme was "International" so we had food from different parts of the world.

Transition Week Plays

During Transition Week, we wrote our own Playscripts and acted them out. It was great to work with new people.

Beach Day no.1

We all had a great time at the beach today. We were fishing, making sand sculptures and sailing. Thank you to all of the parents for their help.

Day 1: You could do either Sailing, Fishing or just play-

It was super fun! We did Sailing but I didn’t go Sailing. Wilbur's dad brought his boat and we could go out in the boat, it was super fun! My friend, Eloise, brought her blow-up kayak and her friends played on it. It was also amazing!! By Anna

Year Six having a whale of a time at Porirua Pool

Our Year Six students had a fab time at the pool today!

Superb Sailing

Sailing
This week on Monday and Tuesday the year 5 & 6’s went sailing at Worser Bay Beach. The sailing was fun, we had a mini lesson before on how to work the boat! We learnt about things like the microphone grip on the tiller, using the mainsheet, how to tack and about the No-Go-Zone.

Quotes:
“I thought it was fun but freaky because we nearly capsized” - Zoe
“It was fun and the water was really warm when we fell out” - Emma.S
“I liked sailing around the buoy and learning about the parts of the boat. The water was FREEZING!” - Asha
“It was REALLY freaky for me but I also really enjoyed it!” - Anna

We are all looking forward to beach week and more sailing!

Hack Miramar and Wellington Makerspace Trust are teaming up to put on a series of free one hour workshops that give everyone the chance to learn an 'Hour of Code'. It's all happening from 10am on December 13th 2014

These sessions are suitable for ages 4 to 104, so don't just bring the kids, give it a go yourself. The sessions can cater for complete beginners through to the slightly more adventurous.

This event is being run here in Wellington as part of a global series of events put on by volunteers and educators around the world during "Computer Science Education Week". Participants will have the opportunity to take part in sessions that start each hour, learning some aspects of programming as well as electronics and general technology concepts in just 60 minutes.
