An ancient game
Gladiators had fights between criminals or animals or other gladiators. Fights took place in arenas like the Colosseum in Rome, which could hold 50,000 people. That’s 15,000 more than the Wellington stadium!
Gladiators had battles with many different animals, often as warm up games before main battles.
Animals included:
- lions
- tigers
- bears
- snakes
- panthers
- giraffes
- crocodiles
- elephants
Animals and humans
Animals and humans both use play to learn how to work together and to make friends. They both learn new things by playing.
Toys from the past and today
Toys from the past
some toys from the past :
- kites
- puppets
Kites are thought to be invented in China over 2,000 years ago. The maori people also made kites like this bird kite.
Some puppet shows in Indonesia would go all day and all night.
