Whare Building

On Monday in our learning groups we were given different materials to build a whare in our class. Some were given only tape, others just newspaper. The students then needed to negotiate with one another to gather the things they needed to build a structure big enough to fit one person from their group in it.

Through this we learnt about the art of giving and taking. We also had some students devise deals then not following through with their end of the bargain.

"when negotiating you shouldn't yell, but talk in a normal, calm way" - Coco + Caspian.

The aim of this exercise was to get kids thinking about the agreements made in the Treaty of Waitangi. We wanted to have them thinking about how it felt trying to make things work with few resources, as well as practice negotiation!

Our reflective questions.. you can hear our reflections on seesaw

We are excited to be visiting Te Papa on Thursday to continue with this learning.
