Maui and the Fish: Maori Legends

For our writing this week we have been retelling Maori myths. Here is one written by Lucas...

Maui and the Fish

Maui slowly paddled downstream. His waka pulled to a stop. Maui flung his line out into the deep blue sea. He took a deep breath, sat down and started to read the daily newspaper. There was a sharp tug on the line. He started heaving the fishing line out. A dark outline of the fish could be seen as the fish began floating up. Up until this day, the shape of the fish is known as the North Island.
