Designing a Windy Wellington Theme Park

In Maths this week, we have been designing our own Theme Park. We have been collaborating, sharing ideas and coming to a consensus. We have set group goals together and have been reflecting on these goals. Please look at our presentation:

We are thrilled that Sarka has offered to teach German this term as part of our languages programme. Yesterday Anna's base group learnt that we use many German words in English. They also learnt how to count to 10 in German. 

Which Paper Plane Will Travel The Furthest?

For our Inquiry, we have made paper planes. Which one will travel the furthest? What makes a good paper plane?

We wrote prediction, observations and explanations (POE) to document what happened.



Greer T Hayley Henry and Nikora: We saw that Hugo's plane went further because his plane was more aerodynamic.

Hugo and Liam: Our observation was that Hugo's paper plane had the straitest folds and was slick! It went fast because it had a good throw!

Griffin, Kirsty, Ollie and Orla: Hugo's plane went the fastest and went the furthest because his sides were even and he knew how to throw it and had lots of force.

Disco Planning underway!

We will be having a school disco in the Salvation Army Hall at 6:00-7:30pm. The date is 19th of May.

The theme is Jungle Safari and make sure you dress up!

There will be a toy swap so if you want you can bring a toy to swap.

In our Student Council time, we have been working on advertising and brainstorming decoration ideas. Let us know if you have any ideas for decorations.

We have been making posters around the school in case you did not have the information.

Questions about wind!

North, South, East and West

As part of our Wind Inquiry, we have been looking into compass directions. We tried to think of different acronyms to remember North, South, East and West and we came up with
Never Eat Slimy Worms
Never Eat Suzanne's Weetbix
Never East Soggy Weetbix
Neither Either Shoulda Woulda

We practiced using these directions by hiding a classmate, and only being able to find them using specefic directions such as 3 medium steps towards the North and 1/4 turn right.

These relate to our wind inquiry because we are going to learn what directions the wind comes from and how this information can be helpful for different things.

Wind Sculpture Walk

A crazy wind was blowing……but we’re not scared.

We went looking for wind and, man, did we find it!

It is all part of getting inspired for our ‘Wind Power’ Inquiry. Looking at the sculptures along Cobham drive, seeing how they move, figuring out how they work and asking questions about how and why the works were created.

Back and forward it bends trembling, like the mast on a tall ship.

I felt the wind go past my face

The leaves were dancing in disgrace

I was in the alley where the wind rushed by

I heard it echo down the chimney  

The boat was leaning and the sail was slick

I was biking with a gust on my back

The corn was bowing as the howl arrived
