Fractions Workshops in Tautoru

A group of seniors went up to Tautoru to teach them about fractions. We were given a small group of kids to teach. The kids cooperated and were all super enthusiastic! In our group we split the kids into 2 groups. One group was kids who understood fractions. The other group were who didn’t understand them that much. We taught the kids about fractions so they understood what they were and so can use them in the future.

We have been unpacking the idea of Tuakana/ Teina. Our students have been discussing these ideas and how they can build their leadership. 

Research about peer teaching says that:  

• Students receive more time for individualised learning.
• Direct interaction between students promotes active learning.
• Peer teachers reinforce their own learning by instructing others.
• Students feel more comfortable and open when interacting with a peer.
• Peers and students share a similar discourse, allowing for greater understanding.

The Worser Bay Tigers

We had a hard start to the season as we lost our first three games, but soon we got the ball rolling.
We tied against the team that was coming first in our grade, which meant we had to do a next goal wins!
Unfortunately our opponents won.  As the season went on, we smashed a girls team that beat earlier
which meant we were improving! We came 3rd in our grade.

The Worser Bay Wizards

The season of miniball started with a loss for us but not too bad of a loss, so the next Monday we
came back to the ASB ready for a comeback. We had a huge win and then we went on a winning
streak for a few weeks until we met our arch rivals the Heat diamonds. We lost that game and it was
very close, but we were really happy with our effort. After a few more games we had made it to the final
against our arch rivals - THE HEAT DIAMONDS! As the time ticked down and the parents were
screaming, even Anna was screaming and then we had the last break of play and the score was 26 - 29
and we were in the lead!      

Y6s vs Teachers Sports Tournament!

The year 6s will verse the teachers in three sports in an epic sports tournament - Miniball, Netball and Football.

Netball will take place on the 14th of September (week 8), Miniball on the 21st of September (week 9) and Football on the 28th of September (week 10).

Parents are welcome to come and watch, as well as any kids, please come watch down on bottom court. If your child plays Miniball or Netball and are Year six then they can play on the date that is shown. Football is an optional sport if they are year six. We hope you enjoy!

Hollywood Disco 21st September!

The theme is Hollywood!!!

We have a Disco coming up, so practice your dance moves and get ready for a groove. The creative entertainment group brainstormed and voted on some themes and have decided on 'Hollywood'.

Here are some ideas for costumes:

• Film Stars
• Bodyguards
• Tourists
• Red Carpet

Yasmin: This is my Christmas tree. It is tessellated. If you cut it in half it is a reflection as well.

What whānau and tuakana/ teina means to us!

Orla: In my class people have helped and I have helped other people we are a whānau that means we help and work together the younger help us because they might have learnt things in a different class but sometimes if we have learnt something already and they haven’t they would help us and we would help then and that would benefit all we work as a whānau. For example if I didn’t hear what Nicola said someone else will help me. When I get stuck because I read the question wrong someone will correct my mistake so it will mean I can try again. I helped my brother when he started he didn’t know who anyone was so I let him play with me. We work as a whānau at Worser Bay school.

Yasmin: In my class people have helped me. At Worser Bay, we are whānau. We help each other even if they're younger they can still help us, for example when I loose things, younger kids and my friends are always helping me. That means even if they're younger than me they can still be my tuakana. When people need my help I help people, for example if someone is stuck and they need an idea I help them get an idea. Sometimes I'm a teina and sometimes I'm a tuakana. I am tuakuna for the whole school by organising events for school.

Nell: 

Tuakana- helped someone 

I helped Isabel when she was upset. 

I helped Emelia to learn how to model a dog. 

Teina - getting helped I got helped by Emelia and Isabel when I was scared about the art celebration. 

I got helped by the ukulele group to learn the ukulele when I didn’t know any chords.

Red and Black Warriors: Arts Celebration

We are very proud of our students. The whole show was student led. They wrote all of the songs and raps. They made the music, danced, sang, and all worked hard to put this together. They also added a movie using Green Screen and Garage band. What an amazing show!
