On Wednesday we had a lot of visitors. Darren from Zealandia, our friend Joakim from Motu Kairangi and Predator free, Wendy from Zealandia and Places for Penguins, Dan from Predator Free Miramar and Richard Johnstone from DOC; with his dogs, a ratter and a mustelid hunter, all came to work with us. And, some year 7-8 students from Holy Cross and Seatoun schools. Talk about busy!
The focus of the session was trapping. We were able to share what we have done so far with our trapping programme with these adults and the students who are setting up their own trapping programmes. It was great being able to help other people and to learn some more about what we can do next.
After the workshop we went to set some more tracking tunnels to see what we have around the school and down the bank. These ones are in the Lizard garden. We are hoping to see some lizard tracks.
Although there was lots to see and do and a great day of learning, the real stars of the day were Kowhai and Flint Richard’s dogs.
This all fits really well with our Inquiry Forest Protectors. We have other trips coming up, to Otari for our Student Council Environment group, a bioblitz group at Zealandia and some exploration in the local area in the bush at Miramar North. Watch this space for further information on upcoming events.
Thanks to everybody who made the day possible.
